The Korea Institute of Public Finance (KIPF) was established in July 1992 for the purpose of policy-
oriented research and analysis in all aspects of taxation and public finance, thereby assist the government
formulating national tax policies and consequently contributing to the national economy.

Since its birth, KIPF has played a critical role in developing tax and budget
policies and improving tax administration. This success is owed to KIPF’s extensive
research and proactive recommendation of policy alternatives.

The changing economic environment in a globalized and open economy has
made tax and fiscal policies increasingly important tools for implementing
sound economic decisions.
This in turn has raised the importance of in-depth research to produce
creative policy alternatives more than ever before.

Fully aware of its roles and responsibilities, KIPF is committed to
developing more advanced systems and policies that faithfully adhere to
the economic principles of equity and efficiency.
