Social Indicator for Korea

Introduction of SIK
The KIPF Database on Social Indicators in Korea was constructed with initial funding provided from
ASEM Trust Fund 020709 by the World Bank (Contract No. 7115167) to the Korea Institute of Public
Finance(KIPF).
The database contains annual, aggregate statistics in the five social fields in Korea:

1) Education
2) Labor
3) Health Care
4) Social Security
5) Environment.

These are areas that are expected to see large increases in social expenditure during the coming years.
One of the primary motivations underlying this database is to have it serve as an information source tha
can guide policymakers in determining the future course of government and public spending in these fields.
Besides the five fields listed above, an additional category contains indices of overall welfare (social
welfare index).
